MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Work begins work to transform five historic buildings at Fort Snelling’s Upper Post to apartments for homeless military veterans.
A ceremonial groundbreaking Thursday is drawing veterans, politicians, community leaders and homeless advocates to the fort. The $17 million project will create 58 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. KSTP-TV (https://bit.ly/1gE9FYD ) says the development will also provide support services for veterans and their families.
The public-private partnership Heading Home Minnesota says more than 350 veterans are living on the streets or in shelters on any given day in Minnesota.
