OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) - A one-time football and baseball coach at a western Kentucky high school, who was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student, has entered a guilty plea to unlawful transaction with a minor.
The Messenger-Inquirer (https://bit.ly/1kq1QFS) reports 31-year-old Billy Wayne Cooper signed a plea agreement in Daviess Circuit Court on Wednesday that dismissed two first-degree sex abuse charges and downgraded a remaining charge. He was accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student.
Cooper had worked at Apollo High School, where he served as a teacher’s aide, a baseball coach and a football coach. School officials said he was terminated for “inappropriate communication with a student” shortly before being indicted in 2012.
The plea agreement calls for a two-year prison sentence. Sentencing was set for Aug. 4.
