BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A former Bennington County sheriff’s deputy and Manchester police dispatcher has pleaded not guilty to selling prescription medication.

Forty-one-year-old Gary Harrington was arraigned Thursday on charges of possession and sale of regulated drugs, forgery, neglect of duty and extortion.

The Bennington County sheriff’s office and Manchester police department both say that Harrington has been fired from his jobs.

A police affidavit says a women told them she had been in a relationship with Harrington, who she said gave her prescription drugs to sell. She said she gave him some of the profits.

The Bennington Banner reports (https://bit.ly/1ozsheY ) that police searched his home and found hundreds of pills.

Harrington’s attorney says his client suffers from back pain and the pills are valid, they’re just old.
