SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a patient at Atascadero State Hospital was killed and an employee was injured during an alleged attack by two other patients.

Ken August, spokesman for the California Department of State Hospitals, says the attack occurred in a patient dorm room Wednesday afternoon. Hospital staff members responded to a call for help and found a critically injured patient in the room. The patient later died.

The San Luis Obispo Tribune (https://bit.ly/1lTBZm3) says officials didn’t immediately disclose a cause of death.

The employee was taken to a hospital for evaluation of injuries.

Two suspects remain in isolation at the high-security state hospital while the investigation continues.

Atascadero houses mentally ill and disordered convicts who have been committed to psychiatric facilities by California’s courts.
