SITKA, Alaska (AP) - Police are investigating the death of a 52-year-old Sitka man whose body was found on a local trail.

The Daily Sitka Sentinel (https://is.gd/MDexRb) says Gregory Killinger had apparently gone on a day hike on the Mount Verstovia trail when he died, apparently of natural causes.

The body of the longtime U.S. Forest Service employee was found Sunday evening on the trail by another hiker who was heading down the mountain.

Sitka police chief Sheldon Schmitt says the body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Anchorage. Schmitt says there is nothing suspicious about the death.
