GUEYDAN, La. (AP) - Vermilion Parish sheriff’s deputies say the pilot of a crop duster has died in a crash near Gueydan (GAY’-dahn).
Sheriff Mike Couvillon says the plane went down in a field around 8:24 a.m. Tuesday off Ellis Bridge Road.
Couvillon identified the pilot as Michael J. Detraz Jr., of Abbeville.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford says the plane struck a power line before crashing into the field.
Lunsford says representatives from the FAA Flight Standards office in Baton Rouge were the first investigators on the scene, and they will collaborate with the National Transportation Safety Board.
