MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP) - Prosecutors say a state Human Services Department police officer has been indicted on charges stemming from his alleged use of excessive force upon a psychiatric hospital patient.
Jamal Hogan of East Orange faces two counts each of official misconduct and hindering his own apprehension, three counts of aggravated assault and a weapons offense in the indictment handed up Tuesday by a Morris County grand jury.
Acting county Prosecutor Fredric Knapp says the charges against the 41-year-old Hogan stem from an incident in March 2013 at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital in Parsippany. At the time, Hogan was a sergeant with the Human Services police force.
Hogan remains free on bail. A telephone number for him could not be located Tuesday.
