PASS CHRISTIAN, Miss. (AP) - Harrison County authorities say a 9-year-old New Orleans boy has died in a tubing accident on the Wolf River.
Coroner Gary Hargrove tells The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/1ht7cvd ) Joseph Schmidt’s father was pulling the boy and his older brother on a tube that swung wide after a curve and hit a tree Monday afternoon. Schmidt was taken by ambulance to Garden Park Hospital in Gulfport.
He was pronounced dead at 5:15 p.m. Hargrove said the boy died from blows to the head and neck. His brother was treated for minor injuries and released.
The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources spokeswoman Melissa Scallan says blood was drawn from the father for testing as a routine part of the investigation. His name has not been released.
