GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) - A former law office employee has pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $150,000 from the Gastonia firm where she once worked.
The Gaston Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1kImRew) 40-year-old Kenette Atkins Tyson pleaded guilty to six counts of embezzlement and four counts of obtaining a signature by false pretense and was sentenced to three years’ probation on Monday.
Tyson also was ordered to pay back the $149,062 that she took from Gray, Layton, Kersh, Solomon, Furr & Smith. She worked as a paralegal at the firm from April 2009 to July 2013.
An arrest warrant says Tyson took the money by writing 124 checks from the real estate trust account to herself. Warrants say Tyson embezzled the money from December 2009 to July 2013.
