LAPORTE, Colo. (AP) - A 14-year-old boy died after he was swept away by the swollen Poudre (POO-dur) River in northern Colorado, and his uncle died after trying to rescue him.
The Denver Post reports (https://bit.ly/Rv6d6o ) that the boy slipped and fell in the river around noon Monday while fishing at a campground and picnic area in Poudre Canyon, about 12 miles west of Ted’s Place. Rescuers found his body that evening.
Authorities say the boy’s 38-year-old uncle tried to rescue him. He was pulled from the water unconscious and airlifted to a hospital, where he died.
The river and other waterways in northern Colorado are running high because of the spring runoff and recent rainfall. The National Weather Service has issued several flood warnings as a result.
