VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - Vicksburg is moving ahead with designing a road that city leaders hope will open more land for development.
The Board of Mayor and Alderman voted 3-0 to hire engineering firm Neel-Schaffer Inc. to design a connection between the north Interstate 20 frontage road and Wisconsin Avenue.
The road, reports The Vicksburg Post (https://bit.ly/1hrpQ6u ) will cross the former Battlefield Mall property now owned by the same company that owns the Blackburn Motors auto dealership.
The city borrowed $1.31 million from the Mississippi Development Authority earlier this year to pay for the road.
The project anticipates a possible move by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineering Research and Development Center to move the front of its facility from Halls Ferry Road to Wisconsin to reduce traffic on Halls Ferry Road.
