KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) - A new American flag is floating in the waters over a former military ship sunk to create an artificial reef in the Florida Keys.

Tuesday marks the fifth anniversary of the sinking of the Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenberg in waters about 7 miles off Key West International Airport.

A group of Navy divers had installed an American flag soon after the wreck’s dedication 60 feet below the surface. The Key West Citizen reports (https://bit.ly/1r9B7lu ) that a local Navy group donated a 6-foot-by-10-foot flag to replace the old one on Sunday.

Diver Joe Weatherby says an even larger American flag will be secured to the wreck on July 4.
