CHADRON, Neb. (AP) - The Chadron City Council is debating whether to incorporate prayers into their meetings after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the practice is permissible.

KCSR radio reports (https://bit.ly/1jS1ozq ) that Chadron city council member Paris Fisher raised the issue to discuss among members. Some members supported the idea of opening with a prayer, while others raised concerns.

Mayor Karin Fischer says a local ministerial association could help coordinate the council prayers, if members decide to allow them.

Vice Mayor Levi Grant says he was concerned that the council prayers could force members to let anybody from any faith take part.

Council members say they plan to discuss the idea in more depth at their next meeting.
