Construction begins at 4-H camp

POLLOCK, La. (AP) - Construction has begun on a multipurpose pavilion at 4-H Camp Grant Walker in Pollock.

The $1.6 million project is expected to be completed by early 2015.

Former state senator Randy Ewing led a fundraising drive that secured money for the project from public and private sources.

He says a $500,000 contribution by lumber company RoyOMartin helped organizers top their goal.

LSU AgCenter associate vice chancellor Mark Tassin says the pavilion will provide shelter for all campers at one time during bad weather.

Tassin says almost 6,000 youngsters will attend 4-H summer camp in Pollock this year.
