HONEOYE FALLS, N.Y. (AP) - A 21-year-old upstate New York man has died after a canoeing accident on a creek south of Rochester.
Authorities say Andrew Primerano of Mendon was unable to get out of the water when the canoe he was paddling with two friends capsized Saturday afternoon on Honeoye (HUN-ee-oy) Creek.
Rescue crews spotted the victim in the water when they arrived at the scene, but he was tangled in underwater debris and fallen trees.
Paramedics tried to revive Primerano as he was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, but he was later pronounced dead.
Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies say the victim was wearing a life vest.
Two other men in the aluminum craft escaped.
