ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say a motorcyclist was killed after crashing into a truck on an Albuquerque freeway.

Albuquerque police spokesman Daren DeAguero says a man riding a motorcycle died Saturday on I-40 while his passenger remains in critical condition.

DeAguero says the accident occurred when the driver of the truck going westbound noticed a ladder had fallen out of the vehicle.

He says the driver stopped in the lane to retrieve it but the motorcyclist ran over the ladder.

Investigators say the motorcyclist was unable to stop before colliding into the truck’s rear.

DeAguero says he was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Authorities as of now do not believe alcohol played a factor in the accident.

A condition on the truck driver was not released.
