TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Trenton firefighters unexpectedly recovered a colleague’s stolen vehicle after it passed by their fire truck as they returned to their station from a call.

The Times of Trenton (https://bit.ly/1mor8Un) reports that a truck owned by a firefighter was stolen around 6:30 p.m. Friday from Engine 3 headquarters on South Broad Street.

Nearly 24 hours later, some firefighters were returning from a run when they noticed the truck drive by and immediately began following it. They notified their dispatch site, who notified police.

When the vehicle’s driver and passenger realized they were being followed, officials say the two abandoned the truck and fled on foot. They remained at large on Sunday.
