BRICK TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a 94-year-old woman has died from injuries she suffered when her granddaughter allegedly attacked her inside the southern New Jersey home they shared.

Ocean County prosecutors announced the death of Mary Driscoll on Saturday, nearly a week after she was found severely injured in her Brick Township home.

Driscoll’s 37-year-old granddaughter, Katherine Schubert, was charged with aggravated assault after the attack occurred. Prosecutors tell the Asbury Park Press (https://on.app.com/1ielyiV) that Schubert may now face more serious charges, but that decision won’t be made until Driscoll’s autopsy is completed.

Schubert remains jailed on $150,000 cash bail. It’s not clear whether she has retained an attorney.

Authorities have not said what spurred the attack. They say Schubert’s mother went to the home May 18 after she was unable to contact her daughter or mother for two days.

When she entered the home with a friend of her daughter’s, they found Schubert “highly intoxicated” and the grandmother slumped over a bed in her bedroom.

The elderly woman had suffered multiple injuries, including a brain bleed, blood shot eyes and multiple bruising and lacerations.
