EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - An Indiana man has been jailed after authorities say he crashed his motorcycle into a police cruiser during a chase.
Police tell the Evansville Courier & Press (https://bit.ly/1vZmYHC ) that officers initially thought 26-year-old Benjamin Burtis Claspell was riding a moped. They say they pursued the man from nearby Newburgh after he ran a red light about 2 a.m. Saturday.
After the vehicle reached 45 mph, it was legally classified as a motorcycle. When a patrol car blocked Claspell from leaving a bank’s parking lot, police say he lost control and struck the cruiser broadside.
Police say a blood test showed Claspell had a blood alcohol content more than three times Indiana’s legal limit. He’s being held in Vanderburgh County Jail. It isn’t clear whether he has a lawyer.
