ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) - Madison County officials are spreading the word about a new emergency alert system that can quickly alert residents to severe weather and threatening situations.
The new system allows county officials to alert mass numbers of people by cellphone, text, voice mail and internet. Emergency Management Agency director Tom Ecker tells The Herald Bulletin (https://bit.ly/1kpYkuC ) the cost of the message system will vary depending on the number of people who sign up but will be cheaper than installing sirens.
Organizers plan to visit fairs and community events to sign people up. Residents also can sign up online at the Madison County EMA’s website.
Participants can receive alerts while on vacation, a weekend trip, or just a quick run to downtown Indianapolis.
