PABLO, Mont. (AP) - Authorities say an inmate intervened to stop an assault on a detention officer by another inmate at the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Detention Center in Pablo.

Lake County Undersheriff Dan Yonkin tells the Missoulian (https://bit.ly/1jJMtHF ) that the incident occurred on Thursday.

Yonkin says the detention officer suffered injuries that could have been much worse if the inmate did not intervene to stop the other inmate and alert other officers. The officer was treated and released for unspecified injuries.

The name of the intervening inmate was not released.

Yonkin says 42-year-old Eugene M. Seyler, of Pablo, faces charges of aggravated assault and assault on a peace officer.

Seyler was transferred to the Lake County Detention Center in Polson, where he was being held on $150,000 bail.
