SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A former Mormon church branch president accused of sexually assaulting a Utah girl in her home has been acquitted of all charges.
A jury found 48-year-old Efrey Guzman of Sandy not guilty Friday of felony counts of aggravated sexual assault, aggravated burglary, sex abuse of a child and forcible sexual abuse.
Guzman was released from his position as president of a Spanish-speaking branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Midvale after the allegations were made. A branch is smaller than a ward.
Prosecutors accused Guzman of groping a 13-year-old girl in 2012, then assaulting her mother at the home when she wouldn’t let him see her daughter three months later.
His attorney says Guzman had an alibi and wasn’t at the house.
