ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Demonstrators have held of a teach-in aimed at protesting the Kirtland Air Force Base jet fuel leak.
KUNM-FM reports (https://goo.gl/hQ3MDM) that elected officials, scientists and environmental discussed Thursday night what they believed is not being done to clean up a huge plume of contamination heading toward Albuquerque drinking-water wells.
A U.S. Environmental Protection Agency report released in January says it could take 30 years before the contamination at Kirtland Air Force Base reaches the nearest drinking-water wells in New Mexico’s largest city.
Members of Citizen Action New Mexico want the clean-up of the mile-long plume to be place on the National Priorities List and an independent task force assigned to tackle the problem.
