URBANA, Ill. (AP) - The U.S. Attorney’s Office in central Illinois says a Paxton man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for cocaine and heroin trafficking.
Authorities say 32-year-old Eddi Ramirez led an “extensive” network of cocaine and heroin suppliers, couriers, and distributors.
He was sentenced on Thursday, and it was announced Friday by Jim Lewis, U.S. Attorney for the Central District of Illinois.
Prosecutors say Ramirez’s operation was one of the largest and most far-reaching in central Illinois history. They say he imported more than 200 pounds of cocaine valued at more than $3 million from Mexico that was distributed in the Champaign, Decatur, Paxton and Springfield areas.
He was convicted y a jury in February after a seven-day trial.
