LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A 35-year-old Lafayette man who pleaded guilty in federal court to possession with intent to distribute cocaine faces up to 40 years in prison.

U.S. Attorney Stefanie Finley says Calvin James Catalon Jr. entered his plea on Thursday.

Finley says Catalon was stopped on Interstate 10 on Jan. 17 by a Lake Charles police officer for a traffic violation and officers found a bag of white power.



The Advertiser reports (https://bit.ly/1onGGIr ) the powder was tested at a Drug Enforcement Administration lab in Dallas and was identified as 991.8 grams of cocaine.

Sentencing is set for Aug. 28. Catalon faces between five and 40 years in prison, up to four years of supervised release and a $5 million fine for possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
