LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Five housing organizations in Kentucky will receive more than a quarter-million dollars in grants to help Kentucky residents find housing or keep their homes.
U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan said in a statement that the funds are used by approved counseling agencies to provide services ranging from helping people find an apartment they can afford to helping first-time homebuyers avoid unsustainable mortgages.
HUD says the agency is awarding more than $38 million nationwide for counseling services and another $2 million to train housing counselors.
The Kentucky funds are going to the Kentucky Housing Corp. in Frankfort and local agencies in Bowling Green, Barbourville and Campbellsville. The grants total $264,518.
