MOUNT OLIVER, Pa. (AP) - The police chief of a tiny borough near Pittsburgh has been charged with stealing more than $8,000 from his department to pay personal expenses, including his cellphone, electric and credit card bills.
The defense attorney for Mount Oliver police Chief Frank Mosesso declined comment on the theft charges filed Thursday by the Allegheny County district attorney’s office.
Mosesso is charged with using 14 checks totaling more than $3,300 from a police department account to pay his bills, and with cashing another nine more checks totaling more than $4,700.
The alleged thefts began in 2006.
Mosesso has been an officer in Mount Oliver since 1997 and chief since 2001. He’s been on paid leave with a shoulder injury since October 2012.
