MERCER ISLAND, Wash. (AP) - A man suspected of breaking into mailboxes at a Mercer Island apartment building jumped into Lake Washington to escape but was fished out by a Seattle police boat.
KIRO reports (https://bit.ly/1sZoqFt ) the apartment manager discovered a man and woman breaking into locked mailboxes about 2 a.m. Thursday. He blocked their car and responding officers took the woman into custody.
The man knocked down an officer and ran away. The officer was treated for a minor head injury.
A Washington State Patrol trooper spotted the suspect about 4:15 a.m. walking across the Interstate 90 floating bridge. He jumped in the water and was found about a half-hour later by Seattle Harbor Patrol.
Police found stolen mail in the couple’s car. Both are now in jail.
