ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two people after a good Samaritan spotted them standing on their overturned fishing kayak off the north Florida coastline.

A Coast Guard vessel was dispatched to the area and both kayakers were taken to the base in Mayport on Wednesday night. Officials say they both declined medical treatment.

Officials say the kayakers were wearing lifejackets when they were rescued.

A Coast Guard spokesman says they did the right thing by standing on the kayak, which made it easier for rescuers and other boaters to spot them.
