SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police detectives say a Utah man accused of repeatedly binding and raping his wife defended the attacks by explaining that once they married, he believed she became his property.

Detectives also said in a criminal complaint filed Tuesday that the 27-year-old Eagle Mountain man admitted raping a niece several years ago when she was preschool age, and threatened to molest his infant daughter if his wife wouldn’t have sex with him.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://tinyurl.com/lfv7uyp) police were investigating him for suspicion of child abuse when he confessed to raping his wife. He later told officers he was only joking when he threatened to molest their daughter.

He’s been charged in 4th District Court with six counts of rape and two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child.
