GALLUP, N.M. (AP) - A Shiprock man could be sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of three counts of second-degree murder in a July 2013 drunken-driving accident that killed 3 people.
The Gallup Independent (https://ow.ly/x79N6 ) reports that a jury convicted 33-year-old Tillman Naskia Begaye on Friday following a five-day trial in federal court in Albuquerque.
Begaye was driving a northbound pickup that collided head-on with a southbound sedan near Sheep Springs.
The accident killed 51-year-old Evangeline Bedonie and her two adult children - 21-year-old Kaelan Willeto and 22-year-old Kayla Bedonie.
Navajo Nation police estimated that Begaye was traveling between 75 and 85 mph in a stretch of highway with a 65 mph limit.
Begaye had two prior DWI convictions.
