PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley is urging customers of the e-commerce site eBay to review their accounts and change their passwords.
Jackley’s statement on Tuesday came after eBay announced that a cyberattack compromised a database containing encrypted passwords.
The company says there is no evidence of any unauthorized activity and no evidence any financial or credit card information was stolen.
Jackley says South Dakota residents should report any suspicious activity on their accounts to the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division. The agency can be reached by email at consumerhelp@state.sd.us or by phone at 1-800-300-1986.
EBay had 145 million active users at the end of the first quarter. EBay owns electronic payment service PayPal, but eBay says there is no evidence PayPal information was hacked.
