RIDGELAND, Miss. (AP) - Ridgeland Police Chief Jimmy Houston will resign July 24 to join the faculty at Holmes Community College.
Houston told the Board of Aldermen this week that Holmes Community College in Ridgeland offered him a position to teach criminal justice and help build the program.
Houston has been police chief for 12 years.
Houston begins teaching in early August when classes begin.
He began his career in law enforcement in 1973, became a chief in 1997 for the Flowood Police Department and also served with the Jackson Police Department. Houston has previous teaching experience at the college level, and tried his luck in the Madison County Sheriff’s race in 2011.
