DECATUR, Ill. (AP) - Police believe a 7-month-old Decatur boy’s death was an accident that happened because he wasn’t properly fastened in his car seat.
Sgt. Brian Cleary told The Herald & Review in Decatur (https://bit.ly/1jsLknN ) that Deshaun Bush wasn’t properly secured in the seat when his 18-year-old mother was driving with him Friday night.
Cleary says the mother turned into a gas station and the boy fell into the rear floorboard. His head struck a glass on the floorboard and shattered it. He died later that night at a local hospital.
An autopsy found the baby died of head and neck injuries.
Police say the mother was arrested on a preliminary charge of endangering the life or a child. But Macon County Circuit Court records indicate she has not been formally charged.
