LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Nine candidates are seeking to replace retiring Calcasieu Parish schools superintendent Wayne Savoy.

The American Press (https://bit.ly/1o6OOzz ) reports the district began interviews Wednesday. District spokeswoman Kirby Smith said Kirk Credeur, assistant superintendent for Jeff Davis Parish schools, was the only interview scheduled.

On Saturday, four more candidates face questions beginning at 9 a.m. Scheduled are Marcus D. Jackson, a middle school principal in Georgia; Charles Michel, supervisor of special education for Lafourche Parish schools; Shirl Edward Gilbert II, head of turnaround schools and Title I monitoring for East Baton Rouge Parish schools; and Corwin Robinson, director of schools for Lake County in Tiptonville, Tennessee.



The final four will interview next week.

On Tuesday, Art Stellar, of Hingham, Massachusetts, vice president of the National Education Foundation and CyberLearning, and James Hughes, of Milan, Tennessee, a high school principal in Dyer, Tennessee, both will interview via video conference starting at 5 p.m.

Interviews will conclude Wednesday. Ina F. Delahoussay, who retired in 2013 as the Calcasieu Parish director of Title I technical assistant, and Karl Bruchhaus, the Calcasieu Parish School Board’s chief financial officer, will interview in person beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The School Board will narrow the list of candidates to the top four on June 4 during a special-called meeting.
