SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Tracy Aviary in central Salt Lake City is starting construction on several renovation projects.
Aviary executive director Tim Brown says the plans include filling an unused swimming pool at the bird enclosure and constructing new exhibition space for tropical birds.
He says the pool sits the middle of the park but has been off-limits to the public for 70 years.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1gIjyVl) the aviary is opening a new exhibit this week featuring two vultures and three macaws but work is underway on the new exhibition space.
That new building is expected to cost about $2 million and open to the public in 2016.
Brown says a 2008 city bond and private donations will pay for the projects.
