OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Retired state Appeals Court Judge Christine Quinn-Brintnall has died at the age of 62, a Washington courts spokeswoman said Tuesday.
Quinn-Brintnall died Monday, said spokeswoman Wendy Ferrell with the Administrative Office of the Courts.
The judge resigned from the Tacoma-based Division II of the state appeals court in January after saying she was undergoing treatment for melanoma. She was serving her third term on the court, which hears appeals from trial courts in 13 counties throughout southwest Washington and the Olympic Peninsula.
“Judge Quinn-Brintnall was a deeply committed and hard-working leader both on and off the bench,” Washington Supreme Court Chief Justice Barbara Madsen said in a statement. “As an appellate lawyer, Judge Quinn-Brintnall argued many groundbreaking cases in the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals. As an appellate judge she wrote over 1,000 decisions, setting precedent on many important issues.”
An experienced trial and appellate attorney, Quinn-Brintnall worked for 15 years in criminal law and six years in public civil law before being elected to the bench.
Her colleagues elected her presiding chief judge of the Court of Appeals, representing all three appeals court divisions in the state, a position she held from April 2012 until April 2013.
A graduate of The Evergreen State College, Quinn-Brintnall earned a law degree at the University of Puget Sound.
She was raised in Astoria, Oregon.
