EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - The Indiana Commission for Higher Education has approved $2 million in planning funds for Indiana University’s proposed new medical school campus in downtown Evansville.
Commissioner Teresa Lubbers says the commission had already approved the money but it had to go through a complicated process to receive final approval. WIBC reports (https://bit.ly/RQez9q) the State Budget Committee is expected to vote next month to release the money.
The University of Evansville, the University of Southern Indiana and Ivy Tech Community College also plan to offer programs at the Evansville campus.
Lubbers says the approval of the money means school officials can begin the planning for the new campus, which is expected to cost $70 million. The campus is expected to open in 2017.
