COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The father of a murder victim says he forgives the man who fatally shot his son last year at a central Ohio cemetery.
Prosecutors said 21-year-old Akeem Johnson was running away from a fight in June when Dasean Battle chased him on a bicycle and shot him down. A judge in Columbus sentenced Battle on Monday to life in prison with a chance for parole after 23 years.
The 21-year-old Battle had previously pleaded guilty to aggravated murder.
Investigators say Battle was angry with Johnson for flirting with his girlfriend online.
The Columbus Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1jlKRDT ) reports that Johnson’s father, Claiborne Johnson, told Battle in court that he has forgiven him.
Battle’s attorney said Battle made a “terrible decision” in shooting Johnson in a moment of rage.
