HONOLULU (AP) - A man has died in a crash on Paalaa Uka Pupukea Road on the North Shore.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports (https://bit.ly/R33H7j ) that the car struck a utility pole and caught fire Monday evening.

Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. David Jenkins says a witness tried to help the trapped driver but had to leave when the car caught fire.



Firefighters were called about 6:30 p.m. and had the fire under control in about five minutes.

Jenkins says the man was dead at the scene.

Kamehameha Highway was closed in both directions from J.P. Leong Highway to Kamananui Road during the investigation.
