MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) - Randy Hodges has changed his mind and will run for re-election as superintendent of the Lauderdale County School District.

The election is in 2015.

In January, Hodges, who has served as superintendent for 12 years, said he wouldn’t run again.

Since then, Hodges says he’s been encouraged to change his mind.

He announced Monday he will be a candidate.

In all, Hodges has worked more than 40 years in the education field.

Over the last seven years he says the district has struggled to deal with a recession that has led to more than $6 million in state funding being cut.

Hodges has served as superintendent from 1988-92 and from 2008 to the present.
