DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - A Davenport park has a new splash of color thanks to some high school students with a talent for welding.
The Quad-City Times reports (https://bit.ly/R4eYnV ) the Davenport West High School students have worked for several months to fabricate and paint six giant bouquets of black-eyed Susans that were installed last week at Sunderbruch Park. Each piece is made up of three flowers standing about 7 feet tall.
The Parks and Recreation Department, which had been looking for something to draw attention to the park’s trails, provided materials worth about $1,100.
Student Thomas Schreiner says class members got the idea from similar artwork at the Family Museum in Bettendorf. He says students worked about 30 hours on each bouquet.
Mayor Bill Gluba says visitors will enjoy the flowers for years.
