GROVELAND, N.Y. (AP) - Ten corrections officers are being treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in a vacant building at Groveland Correctional Facility in western New York.

The Department of Corrections tells WHEC-TV (bit.ly/1o9oXVa) the officers were injured while responding to the fire Monday evening. It started in an air conditioning unit in a building known as the Peterson Academic Building.

The injured officers are being treated at local hospitals and several others have been treated at the prison.



Acting Commissioner Anthony Annucci issued a statement thanking the officers for helping to extinguish the fire and wishing them a speedy recovery.

The medium-security prison is located in the Livingston County town of Groveland, 35 miles south of Rochester.
