NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - A guided-missile destroyer is returning to Virginia following a nine-month deployment.

The USS Ramage is scheduled to return to Naval Station Norfolk on Sunday.

Among other things, the ship was sent to perform ballistic missile defense for Europe. During the deployment, the ship was assigned to the Sixth Fleet area of responsibility.

That area covers about half of the Atlantic Ocean, from the North Pole to Antarctica; as well as the Adriatic, Baltic, Barents, Black, Caspian, Mediterranean and North Seas.
