DUNLAP, Ind. (AP) - Authorities in northern Indiana say a man died when the van he was driving was struck by a train after he went around a warning gate.
Elkhart County Sheriff’s Capt. Jim Bradberry tells The Elkhart Truth (https://bit.ly/1joucz0 ) the car was heading south in the community of Dunlap, about five miles south of Elkhart, when it was struck by the train about 11:10 a.m. Friday. Bradberry says the identity of the victim is being withheld until family members can be notified.
Bradberry says the department is investigating why the driver crossed the tracks when the warning gates were down.
