MARLETTE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A 12-year-old Michigan boy is expected to be sentenced Monday in the accidental fatal shooting of an 11-year-old friend who was an overnight guest at his home in the Thumb.

The Saginaw News reports (https://bit.ly/1mlXtcZ ) Friday that a competency hearing for the boy was waived Thursday. The boy pleaded guilty in April to reckless discharge of a firearm.

Tyler Dunn died Nov. 23 from a rifle shot in Marlette Township, about 65 miles north of Detroit. Authorities say no adult was home.

The court will decide if the 12-year-old is sentenced as an adult or a juvenile. The 12-year-old’s father faces trial May 15 on charges of possessing a firearm as a felon and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The Associated Press isn’t naming the father and son.
