BANGOR, Maine (AP) - University of Maine System trustees are ready to vote on a proposed operating budget.

Trustees will discuss a proposal to freeze in-state tuition for a third consecutive year. If approved Monday, it would be the first time that’s happened since the 1990s.

All told, the proposed unified operating budget would total $529 million.

Officials say the tuition freeze would be contingent upon there being no reduction in state funding. Other proposals on the table include a new strategic plan at University of Maine at Presque Isle, various facilities-related items and creation of a doctor of the science of the law at the University of Maine Law School.
