SENECA, S.C. (AP) - A dog that spent several days in the woods in Oconee County with a pipe stuck on its head is now free.

Animal control officials said Monday they spotted the dog walking around with a stick in its mouth. They are not sure how the dog got free from the pipe.

Volunteers from the Upstate Animal Rescue of South Carolina spent several days trying to get the pipe off the dog they nicknamed Piper, but the dog is afraid of people and won’t let anyone near it.

A veterinarian worried the dog couldn’t drink or eat while stuck in the pipe, but later determined the animal could get water.

Volunteers are still going to try to catch the dog, neuter it, update its shots and put it up for adoption.
