GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) - A Great Falls man has been charged with attempted homicide, endangerment and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after he was accused of firing shots at a sheriff’s deputy on May 9.

Authorities say Ernest Miller barricaded himself in a south Great Falls trailer home during a two-hour standoff.

Police Lt. John Sowell said Miller had an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound to his abdomen.

The Great Falls Tribune reports (https://tinyurl.com/lcm563t ), the standoff began after police arrived to investigate a suspected burglary. Police say a man carrying a gun fired three shots at a deputy, then jumped a fence and ran into a house.

Police say they heard shots inside and others fled the home. They say they contacted Miller by phone and he later surrendered.
