LEVVITOWN, Pa. (AP) - Police say a suburban Philadelphia man who told investigators he builds bombs as a hobby is facing charges after an explosive detonated in his fireplace and seriously damaged his home.
Authorities responding to a house fire around 1 a.m. Monday said they discovered an explosive device made by 30-year-old Thomas Piscione had accidentally gone off his Levittown ranch home and blew out several windows and the chimney.
Piscione faces charges including risking a catastrophe and reckless endangerment. No one else was home at the time of the explosion and subsequent fire.
Levittown police said Piscione wasn’t injured but his hair was singed and soot covered his face.
He is being held on $1 million bail. It couldn’t immediately be determined if he had an attorney.
